Updates from the Lair 7/19/15

Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

It’s so weird to be mostly back to a normal routine! I’m back from traveling and just trying to get enough wedding planning, packing, and research done every day. But that reminds me, our rental application for a house go approved so we’re moving to a nice house in August and I’m soooooooo relieved; our current neighbors SUUUUUUUCK! But anyway, I’m trying to sneak in some reading here and there, but there’s only so many hours in the day ;-).

My Week

The Golden SpecificI jumped into The Golden Specific on our way back from Minnesota and am REALLY enjoying it. The main characters are journeying all over and seeing all sorts of cool things in the world. The magic and character friendships are much more solid in this sequel and I’m really liking how everything is getting setup. Still very readable too!

PrudenceI started a new audiobook while packing and decided to go with Prudence based on Tabitha’s suggestion. It is SO FUN! I would take a break after frustrating research to pack and then be in such a good mood after listening to a half hour of Prudence :D. I had no idea that it was basically urban fantasy in a Victorian setting, but very enjoyable and great narration.

Shadows for SilenceI wasn’t feeling any particular eARC after finishing my last one, so I decided to finally read the novellas from Sanderson that I bought a while ago. Shadows for Silence is the first one from the Dangerous Women anthology and it’s a really cool world. Nice and spooky :D.

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

Wicked Embers His Majesty's Dragon Dark Orbit Hook's Revenge

I joined my new library finally and decided to get a few books! Wicked Embers is probably the first I’m going to read since it’s an “Express Book” so you can only check it out for a week at a time. I also have been wanting to read more from Naomi Novik ever since I finished Uprooted, so I’ll be reading His Majesty’s Dragon asap! I also grabbed Dark Orbit and Hook’s Revenge because I couldn’t resist so I might try them ;-).

Happy Reading!

  1. I have read quite a few books by Keri Arthur and usually enjoy them. I read the early books by Novik but am woefully behind. Good luck with the packing, researching, and wedding planning. Come see my reading week here. Happy reading!

  2. Congrats on your new place, horrible neighbors are the worst :/ I love listening to audiobooks while doing stuff they make stupid chores go by faster. :) Have a great week!

    • So agreed! Sometimes I’m in the mood to just chill and think while doing chores, but often I get annoyed and bored so having an audiobook is essential!

  3. Oh, congratulations on the new house! And welcome home.

Prudence really sounds fun; I love Carriger’s Finishing School series so I really want to read her adult books now. As for your next read – His Majesty’s Dragon, hands down. It is WONDERFUL! If you can get hold of the audiobook, the narrator does an excellent job.

  4. Busy lady. Good luck with the new house.

Prudence is a spinoff of a spinoff.: D I liked the first two series, haven’t started this one yet.

    • So busy D: Thanks! It’ll be worth it for sure, the books are already packed haha!

All the spinoffs! I kind of like that style though of building up the world with a bunch of series that are independent of each other.

  5. Congrats on the new house! Apartment living is horrible, and sis and I are hoping to get a house, or at least rent a house, eventually.

    • Yeah, our neighbors are basically elephants, freaking HATE THEM!!! We’ve been on a waiting list for over a year to rent a house in the area because there are so few, sigh. But we’re signing the lease tomorrow :D

  6. Congrats — moving to a new house (with new neighbors) will be so exciting!

    • So excited! And the neighbors are on the other side of some trees so we won’t hear them hopefully ;-)

  7. I just got a copy of His Majesty’s Dragon at Comic Con, so I’m excited thst someone else is going to read it too!

  8. I really hope you enjoy Dark Orbit. It’s a great book, definitely one to fill your head with deep thoughts!

    • Yey, me too. I am a bit overwhelmed with the number of library books I have now, but I actually had pre-ordered Dark Orbit so I’ll have a copy to read even if I have to return the library one haha
