Updates from the Lair 7/3/16

Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

Hello everyone! Happy Canada Day and 4th of July to those of you near my part of the world :). I hope you all are doing something fun this weekend! I’m going up north to an island in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It’ll be my first time going up there and I’m quite excited. We splurged a bit to get a nice hotel room on the shore for just the one night. Since we’re driving I should get in some reading time too finally.

My Week

ChosenI’ve been focusing this week on reading Chosen! It’s a pretty interesting near future sci-fi with climate change consequences coming to the front. I’m hoping to finish soon ;-).

The Waking FireMy audiobook is still The Waking Fire and I’m really loving it! About halfway through some big revelations come out that are making me really happy about this take on dragons :D.

Late EclipsesFinally, our read along for Late Eclipses started this week and I’m loving the start of it. So excited to keep reading now!!!

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

Vassa in the Night The Dragon Lords The Obelisk Gate

I have no idea what I’m going to end up reading this coming week since I don’t know how much reading I’m going to get done during the weekend. I’ve been wanting to start Vassa in the Night, so that’s on the top of the list. I also still want to get to some of the July books I did manage to get to yet, including The Dragon Lords. But I also want to get started on August books, and The Obelisk Gate is one of my most anticipated books, so that’s top of the list :D. What do you think I should read?

Happy Reading!

  1. Saying you’re going “up north” is such a Michigan thing, I just got a pang of nostalgia! I grew up in Michigan and went to Michigan State but I now live in New Jersey. They say they’re going “down the shore” here during the summer. :) Totally different vibe. Hope you got some reading in!

  2. Enjoy your time! We have a heat index of 108 tomorrow, so nothing for the 4th except eating lemonade cookies.

  3. That sounds like fun! Hope you enjoy your island vacation and get in some reading time! I’m not doing much for the holiday except reading, sleeping, and avoiding fireworks. ;) Happy 4th!

*ahem* Now that I’ve had my fangirling moment for the day… That’s also one of my anticipated reads – no, my #1 most anticipated read – of the summer, so I can’t wait to know what you think of it. ;)

Hope you have a Happy 4th of July! Enjoy your time in UP Michigan.

I hope you have a nice trip to the UP. I really liked reading The Waking Fire. I bet it is great to listen to also. N. K. Jemison and Seanan McGuire are authors I keep meaning to try but haven’t yet. Happy reading!
