Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

Hello loves, I’m still alive! Sorry about missing so much last week, I got hit with a nasty cold/flu coming back from my conference and focused on sleeping instead of post writing ;-). I’m feeling much better now though and got some awesome reading done during recovery!

My Week

Heartless by Marissa MeyerI finished Heartless in one massive binge read last Friday and it was wonderful! I really didn’t expect to finish it so quickly given how thick it is, but I couldn’t stop reading :D.

Magic StudyI also started the audiobook of Magic Study finally! I hadn’t had a chance to add anything to my audiobook app, so downloaded this one from Audible since I’ve been meaning to continue this series for ages. I’m enjoying it for the most part, though I don’t think the narration is as good as the previous book. I’m also amazed how white-washed this cover is since Yelena is clearly described as having black hair and dark skin….

Magic BindsFinally, I decided to go with my strategy of reading the eARCs that appeal to me most to get me through this reading slump of the summer, so I’ve started Magic Binds! I’m not super far in since I haven’t had a lot of time to read on my Kindle, but I know if anyone can get me through a reading slump, it’s Kate ;-).

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Caraval  The Dragon Lords

I feel like I’ve just started a lot of books, so who knows what I’ll end up reading this week! But I think I’ll try to fit in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child because, you know, I have to! Then I’ve read the first chapter of Caraval and so want read that again to help my weird reading mood. Finally, I think my next audiobook is going to be The Dragon Lords since it looks fun and I need fun audiobooks ;-). What are you thinking of reading next week?

Happy Reading!

  1. Kate ! I hope feeling better :) Have a good day

  2. Sorry to hear you were sick! I also did the cold/flu/ugh thing while on work travel this month, and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemies.

    On your TBR list:
I have a copy of Caraval and I keep staring at it and it looks awesome, but I haven’t started it yet. If you read it first, let me know how it is.
I read Cursed Child and enjoyed it, but it reads like fanfiction and not a canonical Harry Potter book. My book club read it and there were mixed feelings which ranged from “This was a fun read” to “I want to burn this book, put the ashes in the toilet, poop on it, then flush it away and pretend it never existed.” Curious to see your thoughts on it!

  3. I gave up after Poison Study; I can’t seem to get beyond the first book in any of her series, and have a real problem with some of her relationships. Can’t wait to hear what you think about Dragon Lord’s though.

    Sunday Summary #14

  4. Ah, KATE KATE KATE. I need to start that book soon, i can’t wait to get back into that world!

Hope you’re feeling better! Have a great week

  5. Sorry to hear you were sick! Conferences are draining enough without adding a cold to the mix. I’m really looking forward to Heartless and Magic Binds (now that I’m finally caught up on the series). I’m hoping to see more of Roland because he has such great laugh out loud moments. Of course, next on the list is No Good Dragon Goes Unpunished, because dragons and silliness and Bob. :)

    Stay healthy!
