Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

Hello loves, I’m back from my travels! We’re still working on moving into the new house, though it’s been slowed down because we discovered there is a pretty bad mouse problem so we’ve been setting a lot of traps and obsessively reading the CDC website on health concerns related to mice >.>. Anyone got any tips?

My Week

Walk on Earth a StrangerI got tired of my last read and ended up DNFing so started Walk on Earth a Stranger on the plane and loooooooooove it! Quite likely to end up a five stars :D. The gold rush setting is cool, Lee is a great character with cool power, the pacing is fantastic and the writing has me completely hooked. Pre-order this shit now!

The Galaxy PiratesI also decided to start an adorable middle grade I just got called Galaxy Pirates! It has pirates in space :D. There are also really gorgeous chapter headers that seem to correspond to various constellations, so cool. I’m not too far but quite enjoying it.

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

Shattered Pillars Zer0es

I’m almost done with my audiobook so I’ll be started Shattered Pillars next on audio I think, I’m pumped to continue that series :D. I also am very fortunate to have just gotten an eARC of Zer0es so that’ll be my next e-read since I’ll be done with Stranger very soon! Gah, so excited for all my reads, now I just need to find time to read them ;-).

Happy Reading!

  1. I also fell in love with Walk on earth a stranger, but I’m not surprised because I adore Carson’s style :)

  2. What book did you DNF? I think I missed that update :/

    • Supervillains Anonymous, it’s the sequel to Superheroes Anonymous. I enjoyed book one, but this one was just dragging and I found myself not wanting to read since it was what I was supposed to be reading, so that had to stop!

  3. I’m glad that Walk on the Earth a Stranger got a good review, It’s been one the book I’ve been really looking forward to of the Sept releases:)

  4. Only a few times have I ever had to deal with a mouse problem, and the only reason one happened in the first place is because the landlord kept refusing to repair holes in the building where mice could get in. But in my experience, the best solution is to have 5 cats. Then no mouse will want to come near your home! :P

(Seriously, though, I hope that problem gets sorted out pretty quickly for you.)

    • Yup, we’ve got big holes all along the foundation, but they are supposed to be patching them in the coming weeks. Apparently the people who rented before us just didn’t give a crap that they were letting an infestation grow??? We are seriously thinking about getting a cat though ;-)

  5. Very curious about Walk on Earth a Stranger. It’s on my TBR. :)

My advice on mice is that sometimes you have to superglue the bait to the trap if your mice are clever enough not to spring it. The glue traps are effective but cruel, and will ruin your clothes if you catch yourself in them by accident.

  6. Yay for being back home and working on moving into the new home but booooo mouses D: We had a pretty bad case with mice at our old house and weren’t especially successful at keeping them out…although the cats did enjoy it! Us? Not so much. I hope you guys can figure out a solution soon! I’m also THRILLED that you’re enjoying Walk On Earth a Stranger – I can’t wait to dive into that one myself :D I’ll be looking out for your review^^ ♥

    • I think that our very aggressive mouse traps and bait strategy has worked since we haven’t found another for a while, though there are still places they could be hiding everywhere D: I want a cat! And the hubby is seriously excited about the idea, so maybe ;-)

Omg read it! It’s so amazing, 5 stars :D

  7. Galaxy Pirates sounds fun, the mice not so much. Maybe get a cat?

    Have a good week!

    • We want a cat! But there’s a no pet line in our lease… But apparently the owner suggested we get a cat to keep the mice out, so maybe we can change that line, mwahahaha

  8. Peanut butter. I’ve never had a serious multi-mouse problem, but peanut butter caught the one or two who wandered in.

In other news, I hope you’re getting a chance to rest up now that traveling’s over, and I’m glad you’re liking Walk on Earth a Stranger! I thought it was pretty well done. :)

  9. I’m sorry to hear about your mouse problem. Yuck! Google Canadian mouse trap. That’s how we solved our mouse problem.

The gold rush book sounds interesting. I hope the ending is good too.
