Updates from the Lair 8/16/15

Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

Oh man loves, packing is exhausting! I’ve done a lot of packing and moving in my adult life, but it has always been my meager belongings and a few pieces of furniture once I moved into a real apartment. Now that I’m moving with the hubby, omg he has so much stuff! I just have the kitchen left to pack and he’s moving the furniture in a van on Saturday, but I haven’t had much time at all for reviews, so the blog will be on hiatus this week until Friday! There will be a SFFFriday though since why not ;-).

My Week

Shattered PillarsI’ve basically only had time for audiobooks this week, so I started Shattered Pillars on audio and am loving being back in this world. This is probably the soonest I’ve ever started a sequel after the first book on audio, so it feels very much like a continuation of the first book and I haven’t forgotten anything :D.

The Night CircusI also started listening to The Night Circus, but I had the settings wrong on the audio so it lost my place when I paused it D:. I’m about a chapter in though and fixed the settings, so I’ll continue it after I finish Shattered Pillars ;-).

Zer0esFinally, I finished my last eARC and so started Zer0es! This is my first Wendig book and I’m getting used to his style, but I love the premise, so I’m excited :). I wish I had more to say but I’ve literally only read the first few pages, haha. I am planning on doing a recap for this one though so I’m reading more closely.

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

Shadows of Self

This beauty showed up in the mail so no other books exist in my mind now :D. I’ll be reading Shadows of Self this coming week and also trying to finish the numerous other books I’m halfway through ;-).

Happy Reading!

  1. Packing is definitely very exhausting. I was moving a lot the last few years and now I am on the move again. It is really bad if you are a book lover that when you move you have to carry all the books with you. I hope that your move will go smooth. Just make sure that everything is well organized so you don’t have weird situations. I am making some big checklists now and I hope that everything will go well with me also! Thanks for sharing!

    • I tried to get rid of a lot of books I wasn’t going to read before moving, but there were still so many! We definitely should have been more organized since we’re having a lot of “omg where is that, no idea” moments, haha. Good luck!

  2. NIGHT CIRCUS! I love that book! It’s such a beautiful and magical read! I hope you love it!

  3. Oh my goodness I need those Shattered Pillars books in my life. Especially because the cover is freaking stunning! And of course because you approve.

Hope you are enjoying The Night Circus, I was a bit underwhelmed by it. But then my expectations were her unrealistic haha.

Yay for moving in with the hubby! Cohabitation makes life so much easier. Best of luck with your life together!!

    • Yes they are so pretty! The first book is Range of Ghosts :D

I’m waiting for that life is easier thing to happen ;-) He’s working twelve hour nights this weekend so it’s been a bit of a pain :-/

  4. Sigh. Yes. Packing is exhausting. Moving is exhausting. I want a nap just thinking about it LOL! I hope things go smoothly for you! I’ll pop in for SFFF this week too – feels like it’s been a while but my reading time has been limited lately and my past reads weren’t all SFF. The horror! ;)

I’ve basically only had time for audiobooks too – I’m anxious to see how you’ll do with Night Circus! That one,s been sitting on my shelf for a while and picking it up on audio might just be what I need :) Happy listening hehe! xx

    • Haha, you can’t nap until I nap! Wait, you read books that aren’t sff?????? Blasphemer! ;-)

I’ve really liked the beginning of The Night Circus that I got to before getting distracted haha

  5. It’s true. Packing can drain you like nothing else. :P Best of luck! And remember, excessive labeling is your friend. :)

    • I have discovered the helpfulness of labeling this time around! Normally I don’t bother since I didn’t have much stuff, but hubby has so much stuff! And is quite excessive with his labeling so it works out :D

  6. All these look great. I haven’t read Night Circus yet either but it is on my shelf :) Hope you have a great week!
