Updates from the Lair

Hi! I was traveling for most of last week, so forgive me while I try to catch up. D: That’s definitely why this post is so late! I got a lot of reading done on the planes though, always my favorite part of flying >.>. I’m trying hard to make a couple of pub dates, so we’ll see how it goes ;-). I’ve also decided to try hard to get back into my “good grad student” routine. I’m going to be shifting my schedule to getting up early and working out before classes/meetings, or hopping on the treadmill at the end of the day and reading academic papers while walking (if I can’t resist sleeping in). I need to get into productive mode again ;-).

My Week

The Republic of Thieves

I’m currently burning through The Republic of Thieves (Gentleman Bastards #3). It’s a long book and the pub date is this coming week, but according to my Kindle I only have about 3 hours to go, so I should be able to manage to finish this one tomorrow evening! I have to admit that I’m not enjoying it as much as the first two, partially because the romance is the main focus instead of the scheming. I really prefer scheming >.>.

Wednesdays in the Tower

Since I have to power down my Kindle during take-off and landing, I brought a physical book as backup! Yes, I’m not willing to spend even ten minutes not reading on a plane! That is valuable time ;-). Wednesdays in the Tower is the second Castle Glower book. Basically, middle-grade fantasy with a castle that changes around the rooms as it sees fit. So adorable! I loved the first book, the second book hasn’t been quite as awesome I must admit, though there is a griffon. It sounds like we might find out how the castle actually works (where do rooms go and come from??), since the characters are pondering!

I can’t decide which audiobook to start next, help? I have three to choose from (that I already bought, just have to decide the order): The Fifth Wave, Legend, and Reboot. I would very much like your opinion!

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Looking for a cute middle grade? Interested in Baba Yaga? Check out A Question of Magic!

We discussed our Top Bookish Turn-offs, and I completely forgot one: BAD SCIENCE! (This will be clear in a review at the end of the month >.>)

I reflected on an unexpectedly successful September!

I’m waiting on Heartless and NIL which I heard about last week :D.

I explained NetGalley’s new profile Feedback to Approval ratio and what it means to you!

I looooooved Bang by Lisa McMann! What a powerful sequel!

What faction would you be if you were in Divergent?? To celebrate Allegiant’s upcoming release, I’m giving away a copy of any of the trilogy books and it’s open internationally :D.

Reports from Other Lairs

Here are some awesome reviews and discussions you should check out :D

Soap Boxing analyzed the reviews that were deleted from Goodreads and has some telling data.

Soulbound from Typing Tiara – that cover is so interesting!

The Art of Wishing from The Book Smugglers – this one looked cute, but maybe not for me.

The Wolf Princess from Good Books and Good Wine – I saw this randomly in the store, now I know what it’s about :D

Inheritance from A Glo-Worm Reads – how have I not heard of this series??

Happy Reading!

  1. Ooh, tough choice for which audiobook to listen to next! I want to say The 5th Wave because I’m so curious about that one. But also maybe Reboot because I’ve already read it and I want to know your thoughts. Sorry, that wasn’t helpful, was it? lol…
Kelley (Another Novel Read) recently posted…Austin Teen Book Festival 2013!My Profile

  2. Jenn @ A Glo-Worm Reads says:

The 5th Wave is pretty good. But Legend also looks really good (I really need to read So my vote is for one of those.

Also, thank you for linking my review and I’m glad I was able to bring the series to your attention :)

    • Sounds good! So far I think Legend is winning :) Maybe I’ll be able to catch up before the third comes out!

Of course :D I love sci-fi especially if they handle the science decently ;-)

      • Jenn @ A Glo-Worm Reads says:

I’m actually not sure if there is going to be a third, it kind of ended in a way that there maybe could be but there doesn’t need to be, if that makes sense.

  3. I’m due to finish “Red Seas Under Res Skies” tomorrow, and I strongly suspect that I’m going to end up diving into “Republic of Thieves” later this week, because dangit, I’m having way too much fun with this series to want to stop now!

  4. LeKeisha Thomas says:

Legend! I’d love know your thoughts, as I’ve yet to read it. It’s sitting on my shelf, waiting for me to catch up on my TBR list. I’m trying to go in order, but when October 22nd gets here, all others will be put behind Allegiant! I’ve been waiting on it too long! I know I’ll read that whole book in mere hours, like I read Insurgent and Divergent. I’m currently reading Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi at the moment. I’m finding it hard to get into, but maybe things will pick up.

    • Awesome! One of my friends loves that one, so she probably wants me to read it too, haha. I hear ya about the TBR list, sigh, that’s one reason why I’ve started the audiobook thing, I can slip in some of the older books that I want to read. That’s good to know about Shatter Me, I picked up a copy from the library last week, but I’m still iffy on how much I want to read it.
