Updates from the Lair

So I decided not to do Dewey’s Read-a-thon this weekend since I had too much homework and work related reading and writing that needed to happen. I also got dragged off to hang out with friends, the horror! ;-) It makes me a little sad since I really like read-a-thons, but the 24 hour ones are just hard for me to pull off since reading 5 hours in a day is a lot for me! Speaking of reading for 5 or 6 hours, I did have a mini-read-a-thon on my own this week when I finished two books in one night on Thursday :D. I love when I get done with enough work that I feel able to spend a bit chunk of time reading, and then I was enjoying Wednesdays in the Tower so much that I stayed up past my bedtime to finish it, hehe.

My Week

Pawn by Aimée Carter

I read Pawn this week as part of a read-a-long that some friends and I did. We periodically choose a review book we all need to read and then get it done ;-). I was nervous about this one, but ended up LOVING it! I highly recommend you save the date (late November) or request a review copy if you can! Pawn was still able to surprise me despite all the dystopian YA I read, and it was just so crazy readable.

The Lost Prince

If all goes well, I should have started The Lost Prince by the time you are reading this >.>. I just got it from the library and need to read it before I review The Iron Traitor later this month :). I kept meaning to read this series, so I was excited when I had an excuse to ;-).

Finally, I decided to start listening to Legend based on your votes last week :D. While the narration isn’t as amazing as other books I’ve listened to, I’m still enjoying this one and only have a couple hours left! I might be able to get caught up with this series before Champion comes out *crosses fingers*.

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

I squee’d about the excellent narration and cats in Red Seas Under Red Skies!

We discussed our top favorite series enders!

I’m “waiting on” three books announced last week: Feathers and Flame, Talon and The Glass Sentence!

I showed you around a new blogging platform called Medium which is currently in beta!

I was a bit disappointed with The Republic of Thieves, but I’m hopeful for the next book!

I posted my review of Of Poseidon, which I had done for a guest post during the summer.

Reports from Other Lairs

Here are some awesome reviews and discussions you should check out :D

Kelley talks about the expectations of return comments and might be overthinking it a bit ;-)

Nafiza asks why the YA genre is so dominated by white women.

Siege and Storm from Shae Has Left the Room – eeeee! So glad Shae finally posted this!

Altered from Xpresso Reads – I got the first book used, so I have no excuse not to read it!

What’s Left of Me from A Bookish Heart – Another one where I have an ARC of the first, gah!

Vicious from Cuddlebuggery – I keep seeing this one around but I’m not sure what I think of it, haha

Happy Reading!

  1. Isn’t it just the worst when you’re forcibly lured into potentially fun socializing with friends?! ;-) I am glad to see that despite your busier schedule you’re still finding time to read! Now that I’m working 2 jobs,my reading/blogging has really suffered :( hoping it’ll be more manageable soon though!

Anyhoo, I’m really wanting to read Pawn now, I keep seeing really positive things about it! I also need to read the Iron Fey series AND Legend – > which I have STILL not read. Sigh. Can’t wait to read your thoughts on all of those!! :D

  3. Oh the horror of getting dragged off with friends ;). This is like me complaining that I’m behind except that it’s my fault and I am going out with friends and *shrug* there’s only so much stuff you can do so oh well to that read-a-thon :P. 24 hours are haaard. I mean, how to resist the temptation of just taking a break and reading again the next day?

Interesting. You’re the second blogger I know who’s loved Pawn. I’m still kind of hesitant – I could go request a copy – but but but I just wasn’t a huge fan of her Goddess Test series :/. Did you read that one? The other blogger did say the same about it remaining unpredictable but being so fun to read.

I hope you enjoy Lost Prince! I admit, I liked Iron Traitor more than Lost Prince, but I’m still the peculiar one in the crowd because I just have lost investment in the series and don’t plan to continue. I’ll be curious to see what your experience is like reading them back to back.

Yay!!! I hope you enjoy Legend too. I ordered the box set for when Champion comes because i know I’ll need a refresher before reading it. The narration isn’t as awesome? Are there two narrators? Why isn’t it as good? Strange pronunciation or?

    • I know right?? I’m just not built for 24-hour anything!

I didn’t read the Goddess Test series, I have heard that Pawn is better than them, but I can’t say :/

I’m happy to hear that about Iron Traitor, since Lost Prince was only so-so for me.

Legend has two narrators and that worked out well, but the female narrator had some weird pronunciation/pacing *shrugs* just not my favorite, and she put an extra syllable in chimney >.>

  4. Jenn @ A Glo-Worm Reads says:

I’ve heard so much awesomeness surrounding Pawn. I read a lot of dystopia as well so maybe this should be one I check out for sure.

Also, YAY for The Iron Prince!! I love Julie Kagawa and just finished The Iron Traitor. All I can say is cliffhanger what?!?!?!?!

I still really need to read Legend. Maybe I will just stick to reading it myself and not listening to it though.

    Have a great week!
