Updates from the Lair

I’ve been working hard to get back into productive mode this week. I got a lot of homework and research done, which was exciting, but this led to headaches for several evenings which severely cut into my reading time D: It’s just no fair when I work hard all day looking forward to reading in the evening and then I can’t! I did go and see Gravity despite having a headache, and it was totally worth it ;-). Also, lots of great discussion posts around the sphere this week :D.

My Week

I started listening to Reboot this week on audiobook and I highly recommend it! Khristine Hvam is my favorite narrator, especially for young adult, and she does an excellent job with Reboot. While I’m starting to get into the romance aspects which are a little annoying, I’m enjoying Reboot’s combination of zombie and super-human tropes!

I’m trying hard to make progress on Cress between all the review books that need to be read and group reads! I love Cress so much, it’s just quite long and I feel guilty reading it when other things have obviously tighter deadlines! I’m also not letting Cress leave my apartment, which cuts in to my ability to make progress on it while traveling ;-).

I’ve just barely started Alienated since my book blogger group decided to start it this week. It’s cute and a fun spin on the alien story, but I’m not getting into it very easily yet. I think that’s just because of outside stresses though. Also, this cover is so horrendously white-washed…. The guy is described as being brown-skinned with the justification that the aliens have blended all the races so everyone is just mixed, NOT WHITE!

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

  1. Ooh Liked Reboot and I’ve started Alienated as well and so far so good! Aelyx’ name is stuck in my head though. A-licks, A-licks. Psyched for Cress!

    • Hehe, I kind of wish A-licks hadn’t been how Cara explained the pronunciation since it just made for bad imagery xD

  2. Congratulations on being productive and getting some work done! I’m desperately behind on blog and school and have been working on catching up tonight – guess which one I chose? LOL my blog! I’m so irresponsible – I’ve been in school FOREVER and I’m just ready to be done :/

I’m so glad that you mentioned that Khristine Hvam is a great narrator, I’m always looking for new narrators, so I jumped over to audible to see what she’s done. I noticed that she narrated the Vampire Academy series starting with book 2, and that’s been on my list forever, so I’ll check it out. so thanks !

And all those links discussion posts sound so interesting! I just opened 8 new tabs to read! Darn you LOL! Thanks for sharing them ;)

    • Haha, I have definitely been having trouble prioritizing school over blog too! I have been fairly successful at going in to the office and working on whatever is on the to-do list 9-5 and then feeling all right doing bloggy stuff and reading when I get home. This is coming from the girl who worked from home all summer because she didn’t want to go anywhere >.>

Yey! I’m so glad that you’re going to try her out and hopefully you’ll get to tackle that series now. That is definitely why I listen to audiobooks since otherwise I would never be able to get to all the older books I want to read!

Hehe, the tab attack totally happens to me when browsing other bloggers’ weekly wrap-ups, I just spend my breakfast eating time reading blog posts ;-)

  3. During Dewey’s read-a-thon, I watched the trailer for Reboot and it was one of the first book trailers I’ve seen that I really liked. I’ve been loving audiobooks lately, so I think I’ll take your recommendation and give it a try when I need a new one :)

    • Oo, nice, I also don’t really like book trailers, but I haven’t seen Reboot’s! Yes! Khristine Hvam is such an amazing narrator :D

  4. Glad to hear you recommend Reboot! I feel guilty to start reading Cress right now. I’m going to start it soon because I can’t resist. I’m sure it will be devoured super quick. Liking forward to Alienated also!

    • I thought that I would buzz right through Cress, but it’s taking me longer than expected partially because I feel guilty and set it down to read books with closer deadlines, and partially because it is just freaking long! I’m loving it hard core (keep imagining Cress as the Pixar girl which actually works well), and just need to slot out another evening or two to finish. I’m trying to finish it soon so that I can hold a giveaway for it far enough in advance that the winner can actually read and review it before pub date themselves

  5. Adelynne Chang says:

Haha, brown-skinned aliens are certainty new.

    Everybody loves Cress… :D
I’m just staring at that picture of Cress on the screen and wishing that it’ll magically fly out of the screen.

    Have fun reading!

    • I just wish the cover showed it D: Cress is very pretty I must admit! Though my ARC doesn’t have the cover image *sigh*

  6. Ahhh Cress!!! I’m so excited to read your review of that one! :)
I get so annoyed at covers where a character is described as having a certain nationality or has a different skin tone, yet the cover models don’t match. I’ve also noticed blonde cover models on books where the lead is a brunette; the cover models I’ve seen most accurately portrayed are actually the redheads.

    Alice @ Alice in Readerland

    • Yeah, it frustrates me because there is such a lack of POC on covers and as characters so when the character is clearly described as having darker skin, the cover model should freaking match that! You’re right about redheads though, weird, maybe there are a lot of stock models with red hair?

  7. Jenn @ A Glo-Worm Reads says:

Cress!!!!!!!!!! lol I’m excited for that one! I’m happy to hear that it is long too, since I like long books, if they’re good ;)

Reboot sunds quite interesting as well, so I’ll be looking forward to reading your thoughts on that.

  8. Ooh Cress!! I so can’t wait until that book is out, I love that series! That sucks about the Alienated cover, but it happens. Can’t wait to see what you think of that one too. Have a good week!

  9. I am dying to read Cress, I was obsessed with both of those books, I hope that you get to read more of it soon. I know how you feel with studying and school, trying to find time to read is so hard, I hope your headaches feel better and you can get some reading done!

Kristin recently posted…Review : Hourglass (Hourglass #1) By: Myra McEntireMy Profile

    • I’m definitely loving it so far, it just makes me happy thinking about it! And that cover <3 I'm definitely going to be giving away the ARC so that I have an excuse to buy the hardcover ;-)

  10. Sorry to hear about your headaches :( I hope you’ve been feeling better! I’ve been dealing with migraines since my teens, so I can relate to how sucky it is when your head is in pain…definitely puts a cramp on reading too D:

On a more positive note, YAY for Gravity, I want to see that one SO bad! You had a pretty sweet week book wise as well! I’m jealous that you’re already into Alienated but also bummed that it’s not blowing you away yet. Also can’t believe you’re already into Cress when I haven’t even gotten to Scarlet yet LOL I wish you the best of luck with both of those and Reboot :D
Micheline @ Lunar Rainbows recently posted…Harry Potter MotW #14My Profile

    • My migraines steadily got worse through college, I blame stress! But now I’m on meds for them which has definitely helped!

Omg you must read Scarlet! I loved it so much more than Cinder :D That reminds me that I wanted to get some more of Cress read tonight, but I’m behind on the Alienated group read *panics*
