Updates from the Lair

Lovelies! It’s the last Updates from the Lair of 2013!!!! What a great year it has been too. Lots of awesome books read, reviews written, friends met, and new blogs discovered :D. I’ve been traveling the whole week and only just caught up on comments, sorry about that! I’m actually still traveling, but taking advantage of the wi-fi at my parents’ place while the boyfriend watches Dukes of Hazzard (ugh ;-) ). I actually haven’t opened all my presents yet since we’re doing a late holiday here, so I’m still hoping for lots of books, hehe. How have your holidays been if you’ve been celebrating? Apparently my apartment lost power for six days because of that ice storm in Michigan, so hopefully everything is okay there D:.

My Week

I read a lot of books this week because of all the traveling time, but here are a couple!

The Pirate's Wish

I borrowed The Pirate’s Wish from the library and finally got to reading it as part of the Book Buddies group on Book Blogging DB (you should join, it’s a lot of fun!!!). I’m enjoying this book better than the first since we’re finally working on the quests and there is a manticore :D. It’ll be nice to have finished this duology, since I was the one who asked my library to get it >.>.

Clean Sweep

I read Clean Sweep! This is a novel that was released serially on Ilona Andrews’ website and they’ve now released it in it’s complete form with illustrations on Amazon. This is a whole new world separate from the other series with aliens!! I quite enjoyed it and look forward to them starting the second book. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to read it on my computer as it’s released on the blog, but I’m willing to buy the complete copies ;-).

In addition to a bunch of other books, I’ve finally starting a friend’s manuscript which has been so much fun. Obviously I can’t tell you any details beyond that but the experience of beta reading has been so rewarding already. I love feeling like I’m helping by catching the last couple typos and reading a book only a couple other people have is just so exciting!

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Reports from Other Lairs

Check out Sci-fi and Fantasy Friday for the reviews and discussions I found this week!

Happy Reading!

  1. Good thing you weren’t home for the power outage! I’ve gone through a couple in the winter, but never 6 days. That would have been brutal.

    • Yeah, I’ve dealt with four days back when I was younger, but that was with a fireplace! I don’t really know what I would do if I had to stay there :(

  2. Ooh. Six days without power. Um, check the fridge and surrounding floor first. (My office lost power for a week last year and the fridge kind of … melted.)

Beta-reading is pretty cool, isn’t it? Do you find it easier/harder depending more on the writer or on the “stage” the manuscript’s in, or a combo of both?

I hope the still-to-be-opened presents contain lots of goodies! Safe travelling home and fingers crossed for limited power outage damage. :)

    • Will do! There wasn’t too much ice in the freezer, so hopefully it’s okay *gulp*

This is the first time I’ve beta-read so I can’t really compare ;-) This manuscript is pretty far along, so I can read it much more like a regular book which is nice.

  3. Oooh that’s cool that you still have some presents to open up :D I hope you get tons of bookish goodies\!! And I’m sure everything is fine back home for you but seriously – Woah @ 6 days without power! o_O That’s kinda nuts hehe Anyways The Pirates Wish looks amazing, that series is pretty high on my TBR shelf atm! Safe travels & happy reading!!

    • I know right? I’m pretty glad that I wasn’t home since that would have been quite uncomfortable D: Thanks! Heading home tomorrow, just six hours until I can collapse, haha.
