Updates from the Lair 5/25/14

Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

As you are reading this I’m on my way to BEA (12 hours, yey), so I wrote this post a bit early. It’s going to be my first BEA ever, so I’m quite excited. Why am I leaving so early you ask? Well, before BEA Mr. Boy and I are going to be staying with Mr. Boy’s aunt for the beginning of the week and I’m meeting that whole side of the family for the first time *hyperventilates into a bag*. Since they live in New York, it was kind of too good of an opportunity to pass up and that’s also how I tricked the boy into driving me to and from New York with a bag full of books on the way back >.>. I don’t know if he realizes just how many books there are going to be… (don’t tell him!). So yes, it’s going to be a VERY exciting week for LOTS of reasons.

My Week

Midnight Thief

I’m reading Midnight Thief this week since I just couldn’t resist as soon as it showed up in my mailbox. I’m enjoying it, though so far (I’m about halfway) it seems like a typical fantasy more than I expected. I’m hoping that the barbarian plot line becomes more prominent since it is intriguing :D. Also there better not be a love triangle *warnings going off* ;-).

Hungry by H. A. Swain

I’m also reading Hungry this week since I waited way too long to start it. I’m really enjoying this one, since it’s a fresh spin on dystopian/futuristic YA and the premise is actually quite believable given the direction our personal technology is progressing. I’m excited to see where things go, though I’m reading it slowly since four of us are trying to stay in sync, hehe.

Fireborn by Keri Arthur

I’m ALSO reading Fireborn on my Kindle this week. I didn’t mean to be reading three books, honest, but I’m doing this thing at work where I work until 7:30pm since that is when the gate goes up in the visitor parking lot and then I get free parking. However, by 7:30pm, I mean more like “I head to the car around 7 and then wait reading my Kindle until the gate goes up” ;-). Fireborn is a lot of fun though and kind of perfect for reading randomly in the parking lot :D.

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

The Immortal Crown The Scroll of Years Magic Breaks

As I mentioned above, I have a 12 hour drive to New York and a 12 hour drive back. On the to New York, I of course need to have some books to read! I really wanted to have already read Immortal Crown, but I didn’t manage it, so I’m going to try to read it during the drive. If that isn’t working or I finish early, I’m going to finally read The Scroll of Years :D. I also have decided that I don’t need to wait to read Magic Breaks anymore because I just really need it, hehe.

Happy Reading!

  1. Love triangle warnings going off on Midnight Thief? Doggone it, can’t we have one good YA fantasy untainted by this evil?

I hope you have a blast at BEA! And no, Mr. Boy does not know what he’s signed up for. I hope all those books don’t kill his gas mileage too badly. ;)

    • We are saved from the love triangle, have no fear!

Haha, he was quite surprised by how heavy the suitcase was >.>

  2. You’re reading three? That doesn’t sound like too much to me. Sad that Midnight Thief isn’t wowing you. I know you were so looking forward to it!

    • Haha, I know right, normally I’m at at least four! Midnight Thief definitely got amazing at the end, totally worth it!

  3. I need to finish reading Immortal Crown. It reads slower than YA but I was enjoying it though it got pushed aside. I finished Midnight Thief and I enjoyed it. Still not sure what I’m going to rate it though. Be safe on your trip and BEA :-)

  4. Have a great time at BEA, and I hope meeting Mr. Boy’s family goes well! I’ll be reading The Immortal Crown soon, too. The first book started slowly but really grew on me. And Midnight Thief does look good; I may request it if it’s still available.

  5. Weeee BEA *does a little dance* we ABSOLUTELY have to meet up at some point! Hopefully in lines for books where we can discuss any bookish/blogger events you may be attending! Harlequin Breakfast? Book Blogger Picnic? Anyways we like a lot of the same books so we should run into each other AT LEAST once during the expo :D

I hope The Midnight Thief impresses you more as it goes and I’ll be looking out for your thoughts on it AND The Immortal Crown! Sooo many awesome looking books! Enjoy xxx I’m off to look up Hungry ;-)

    • I won’t be able to go to most of the events :( I’m only around Wednesday and Thursday evening, so I’m aiming for the Bash at that local book store and the Macmillan party. Darkest Part of the Forest is my top priority, so those lines for sure :D

I’ve given up on reading Immortal Crown in time D: But Midnight Thief definitely impressed!

  6. Better keep those piles of books a secret for now. Have fun at your first BEA. I’m hoping to go sometime in the near future. Get lots of reading done on the plane.

  7. I sure hope Midnight Thief is good, I took a flyer and requested it myself. Looks pretty, and YA is good for between other books.
