Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

This weekend I’m in Niagara Falls with the boyfriend! It’s our three-year anniversary so we’re FINALLY going on our first non-family-visiting vacation together :D. It’s also my favorite kind of vacation in that he planned everything and I didn’t have to do any research or feel any pressure for picking the right hotel etc etc etc. Also we’re driving (since not wanting to buy plane tickets is the main reason we haven’t gone anywhere up until now!), which means six hours there and back for me to read :D. I promise to take lots of pictures, we’re even bringing my nice camera ;-).

My Week

Vault of Dreamers Since I’m writing this a little early, I haven’t actually read more than a page of Vault of Dreamers but I’m in the mood for some fast YA and have high hopes! I’m not 100% sold on the whole reality TV dystopian school premise, but have heard great things about O’Brien’s writing so that seems likely to be fun. If it doesn’t end up appealing to me, I’ll just switch over to The Young Elites ;-).

As soon as I finish my current eARC, I’ll also be starting my beta read of the sequel to Midnight Thief! I’m (hopefully understandably?) unbelievably excited for this opportunity and will be doing my best to contribute to making this series awesome sauce ;-).

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

The Bone Season

Since I will probably just be working on my current reads the whole week, I’m not going to even kid myself that I’ll be starting anything new this week, but if I somehow do get time, I think it’s time to finally start The Bone Season since I received a paperback for review this summer!

Happy Reading!

  1. You’re beta-reading? Lucky! Have lots of fun, and I know you’ll do a great job! As for The Bone Season…I hope they did a bunch of edits before it went to paperback. The hardcover had lots of typos (and I just had issues with the story), but happy reading! :)

    • There was a lot of squeeing when I got that email I must admit! Huh, that’s weird about the hardcover typos D: I’ll let you know if the paperback is better on that!

  2. Have a great time at Niagara Falls! I haven’t read either of those books, but reality TV dystopian school sounds very original. At least it’s not what I have in mind when I think of dystopian.

  3. I hope you had an awesome vacation – you deserve it! And have fun with that Midnight Thief sequel beta read. (I still need to read the copy you sent me – sorry! I’ve been swamped.)

    • Thanks! It was quite an excellent vacation :D. No worries, it’s a good book to pick up when you need something light and fun though ;-)

  4. I ended up with two Vault copies so passed them to my sister and cousin in hopes that one of them would read/review it for me. I’m just so slow right now!

  6. Have a fabulous time at Niagara Falls, and congrats on 3 years! The falls are really beautiful; I’ve been to the Canadian side a couple times and it was really fun. I got a copy of The Bone Season recently too – can’t wait to hear what you think of it, Anya! It seems to be quite polarizing but honestly it sounds right up my alley.

    • Thanks! It was a great vacation :D. One of my good friends absolutely loooooooves The Bone Season, so I’m hoping I like it and don’t have to tell her bad news haha

  7. I really enjoyed The Vault of Dreamers, it wasn’t perfect but it was engaging.

    • It was definitely very engaging. I ended up a bit frustrated with where the plot went and that cliffhanger, but never found myself bored when reading :)

  8. Love vacations! Enjoy your first non-visiting one. I was sucked into that for years (using vacation time to visit family) and probably will again since we all live in different places again (after years of living in the same town). Have fun, take pictures!

  9. I got The Bone Season way back when it came out but still haven’t gotten around to reading it. I will admit I’m a little nervous about it since I’ve heard it’s somewhat a slow read and it’s a pretty large book…but I’ve heard it’s amazing so I hope to get around to it sometime soon! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on The Vault of Dreamers. It’s one that I’m really excited for! :)
