Updates from the Lair 9/14/14

Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

Sooooooooo the big news this week is this:

Engagement Ring

Yup, the boy’s spontaneous anniversary trip to Niagara Falls was in fact much more devious and I said yes, so Mr. Boy is now Mr. Fiancee :). And the rest of this week has been full of school and work and two author signings (Sarah J. Maas and Melissa de la Cruz) so you can understand that I’m ridiculously exhausted and haven’t read as much as hoped, haha.

(P.S. No there isn’t a date yet and no I haven’t started actually planning anything because omg classes are trying to kill me and I’m not going to think about stressing over another thing until May when I’m done with classes forever! :D)

My Week

I’ve mostly been just making progress on the books started last week and should be finishing my beta read of the sequel to Midnight Thief in the next day or two. I have as of this writing read the first page of Young Elites though and I’m really excited to read the rest :D.

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

Silverblind The Bone Season

I had wanted to start Silverblind last week but decided to prioritize beta reading, so I’ll be starting it this week for sure :D. I also think that if I finish The Young Elites this week I’ll finally tackle Bone Season! I am pretty darn excited about everything on the TBR these days, too bad my homework is taking up so much time D:

Happy Reading!

I LOOOVED the Bone Season! I need to reread it before the second one comes out! There are just too many facts in that book for me to remember them all.

  8. Congrats; that’s super exciting! (And I’m super jealous of the Sarah J. Maas signing). I absolutely love the rainbow in your pic ;)

  9. Congratulations! The rainbow adds a nice touch to your ring pic. :)

I thought The Bone Season was enjoyable, though it had its faults. I’m still planning on reading The Mime Order, I feel like this could get really interesting.

    • Hehe thanks! I just randomly decided to try that pic when I saw the rainbow in the mist and it turned out so well (even though I had to crop out my finger a little >.>)

I’m very curious about the faults of Bone Season since you’re not the first to tell me that, I always like to find out if I have the same problems once I’m done hehe

      • Well, a Niagra Falls proposal is really sweet, so that just captures the magic perfectly!

And I think a lot of people were put off because they titled Shannon as the next JK Rowling, leading to a lot of hype. I wasn’t really fazed by that, even though it’s not the next Harry Potter. :) I’ll look forward to when you are done to see what you thought of it!

        • Oh yeah, that would be a problem. Why can’t publishers realize that promises like that just leave people disappointed??

Oh my gosh! Congratulations! That must me so exciting!!! And that is a beautiful picture, by the way- the rainbow is so pretty behind the ring.

The Bone Season is really good, and The Mime Order will be coming out soon. Hopefully The Young Elites is going well for you- I’ll be waiting for your review! :D

    • Thanks times two :D I normally suck at taking photos so it was pure luck that it turned out so well haha

I’m quite enjoying The Young Elites and will have to preorder a hardcover, I can already tell this is going to be a favorite series!

  11. I totally squeed when I saw that picture! A HUGE congratulations to both of you!!!

Yay for the Maas signing! Mine was yesterday, and I had so much fun!

  12. Weeeeee! Congrats Anya & Mr. Fiance! :D Yay for surprises and yay for loooove! I wish you both nothing but the best xx And then I have some more YAYYYYY’s for author signings (OMG SJM!!!) And since I still haven’t read my copy of Bone Seasons, I’m excited that you’re reading it and look forward to reading your thoughts on it :)

    • Thanks!!!!!! <3 Oo, do you think you'd have time to fit in a buddy read of Bone Season so that both of us read it before Mime Order comes out? ;-)

  13. Aww Congratulations! What a nice devious plan he had. I love the ring and that picture is pretty too.

Good luck with school – I know all about it killing us, unfortunately :(

    • Awwwwww, yey! It was great since it was only a four hour drive for us too so we didn’t have stress too much and just had a long weekend :)

  17. Congradulations! :) I just started Young Elites too, it looks so good! That’s cool that you’re a beta reader for the Midnight Thief sequel. I haven’t read the first one yet, but it looks good.

    • HAHA thanks!! Yey Young Elites! I’m at about page 300 and dying to finish it if only the fiancee would be less attention deprived ;-)

  18. Holy crap! Congrats! I love the random little rainbow above the ring. It makes it look magical! :D

Have fun reading the Bone Season. I am a part of the early readers thing they did before the book came out, so I was able to get it as an arc and loved it. I also have the sampler for the Mime Order, but I am weird and will cry if it stops at a cliffhanger in the middle of the book so I’ve not read it yet.

    • Mwahahaha, we were at Niagara Falls and there was a rainbow in the mist so I couldn’t resist ;-)

I haven’t gotten to Bone Season yet, but I will be trying again this week!

  19. OMG ANYA!!! Congratulations!! Being a grad student and a wedding planner would be insane – good call on waiting a while before diving in.

The covers for those TIna Connolly books are the best. I must know if they reflect the awesomeness within or…not, hahaha.

    • Haha, unfortunately I’ll still be a grad student, but at least won’t be taking classes and no one will really notice if my research slacks off a bit ;-).

OMG I LOVE Tina Connolly’s books! Ironskin and Copperhead were both freaking awesome and I’m loving Silverblind even more, highly advised :D

  20. Huge congrats!!! Take your time with the planning!

  21. Congratulations, Anya! And yes, definitely take everything one step at a time. No need to worry about wedding planning and school all at once. :)

Haven’t heard of either book you’re planning to read next. So I guess I’ll find out more about them through you. I did finish reading Mary Weber’s “Storm Siren,” btw, and will post my review of it mid-week.

  22. I haven’t read Bone Season yet but i want to. And CONGRATULATIONS! Welcome to the engaged club. :)

Also, The Bone Season is pretty great so I’m sure you’ll like it. It’s not perfect but it’s really, really good and so gripping! I can’t wait for the next one.
