The Hidden Legacy series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews continues as Nevada and Rogan navigate a world where magic is the norm…and their relationship burns hot

Nevada Baylor has a unique and secret skill—she knows when people are lying—and she's used that magic (along with plain, hard work) to keep her colorful and close-knit family's detective agency afloat. But her new case pits her against the shadowy forces that almost destroyed the city of Houston once before, bringing Nevada back into contact with Connor "Mad" Rogan.

Rogan is a billionaire Prime—the highest rank of magic user—and as unreadable as ever, despite Nevada’s “talent.” But there’s no hiding the sparks between them. Now that the stakes are even higher, both professionally and personally, and their foes are unimaginably powerful, Rogan and Nevada will find that nothing burns like ice …

Note: I received an advanced copy of White Hot from the publisher. Some things may have changed in the final version.

  • Slow building romance actually works! I’m not sitting back thinking it’s ridiculous that these two haven’t gotten over themselves yet and I completely understand why they are doing the dance of maybe romance maybe not. I WANT the romance to stay slow because the only way these characters will have a healthy and longterm relationship is if they let each other take a whole lot of time to get used to the idea. I love it! This is how ‘broken’ characters should fall in love!
  • Really cool development of Nevada’s magic. Nevada’s magic was already pretty cool, but now she is discovering she has more power than she thought and therefore has to make a lot more decisions about what she wants for her life and where her morality line is.
  • Reveals about magic of other family members is epic. I guess I never really noticed that we didn’t hear about the younger kids’ powers in the first book, but it is now clear that that was very purposefully left out. You will be so excited to see what they are!!!!
  • Discussion of healthy relationship with ‘alpha male’ type. I shouldn’t be surprised that Ilona would decide to actually have a rather meta discussion of healthy relationship dynamics with a very aggressive and controlling guy like Rogan. But I’m so thrilled that she actually did write that scene! Nevada is in no way shy about being quite blunt about her expectations and needs if she is going to have a relationship with Rogan and wow what a great model for twenty-something readers!
  • Spy ferrets. I shall say no more.

  • Might be too slow of build for romance readers. I’m under the impression that books with this sort of cover normally have the romantic tension resolve within one book? This is definitely more of an urban fantasy similar to Kate Daniels than a paranormal romance (which I have read and enjoyed as well!). Much less sex, much slower romantic storyline. I’m okay with those things, but the cover is probably promising things that some readers will be disappointed to miss.
