WWW Wednesday #19

So I traveled a lot over the last seven days on two different trips…. Whoa, so much plane and bus time, my back is pissed at me. On the first trip, I concentrated mostly on school work and so got a lot of papers read, which was good. On the second, I was just too tired physically and mentally to get much productive done, so I finished some fiction instead :D.

What did you recently finish reading?

In the first trip, when I couldn’t read papers anymore, I decided to still be productive by reading (and finishing :D) Parasite Rex, which I was reading for research project inspiration. It definitely helped me think of things I wanted to investigate, in addition to proving how crazy awesome parasites are. On the second trip, my tiredness led me to read a fun book instead: Stormdancer by Jay Kristoff. I had super high expectations for this book, so it didn’t meet them all, but it was still a good story. I look forward the second, which I hope will be less depressing….

What are you currently reading?

I had my fun with reading chill books, and now my review pile is increasing again, so I’m going to try really hard to finish a review book this week. Look, Second Skin, Too has a cover now! That makes me happy, though I’m still not a super fan of the cover style. I can assure you the books are better than the cover makes them look (in my opinion at least ;-) ) and if you like space adventure, check them out! Also, I’m having a hard time getting my hands on audiobooks that I want to listen to, so I was thrilled to see Fire on the library shelves. Loving it so far! Finally, I always need to be reading a Kindle book for exercising, so The Covenant of the Faceless Knights (also a review book) is the current Kindle book :).

What do you think you’ll read next?

After I’m good and read a review book, I’m going to have to work on a borrowed book. I think my plan will be switching between review and borrowed books for a while, to keep my sanity. Mermaid’s Madness is definitely top of the list, as I keep saying each week. Jim C. Hines rocks my socks.

Remember to subscribe for weekly reviews of awesome books!

What are you reading past/present/future?

  1. I have Stormdancer on my list of TBR that I need to get to. I’m glad to hear you say that it was a good story but the depressing part has me a little worried.

So beyond super excited to see you reading, or listening at least, to one of my favorites: Fire by Kristin Cashore! I hope you end up loving it as much as I did/do.

    • Yeah, Stormdancer was a little strange.. My review is coming in a couple weeks, but basically the setting is very depressing (completely polluted, etc) and it doesn’t really get much better. Do you read other steam punk? It might be that I’m just not super into that genre

So far, I’m completely in love with Fire :D Especially since the narrator is rocking the voices :D

      • I’ve read a little steampunk but not enough that I’m anywhere near an expert or anything so I couldn’t say what to expect of the genre. With all the mechanics pollution would seem logical, or at least possible, but that is just going off my own thoughts.

Yay! I’m so glad to hear that.I liked all three of the companion-esque novels but Fire is definitely my favorite, I’ve reread it the most. :]

        • Yup, and the mechanics were the reason for pollution in this case, and there are all those fancy Victorian style gas mask costumes and such, but I just find that concept depressing D: Maybe steampunk just isn’t for me…
